This week I turned in the first draft of the first part of my PhD proposal! Exciting :)
The excitement was soon tempered by reality. Many different suggestions from all the people who have kindly offered to help me through this process and many different things to take into consideration. One of the main jolts to my research proposal was the idea of focusing more on the Wilder's trial. I had not considered that until then, mainly because it would take be out of the terrorism area into the freedom of expression area.
One thing that makes writing a PhD proposal distinctly different from other research I've done is the intensity of the involvement of advisors. I have been happily surprised by the help I've gotten from all corners and the quality of the comments and critique. Of course, at the same time, some of it has been heart breaking - how dare they criticize my baby? - but, in the end, I am confident it will make for a better research design.
What are your thoughts about the Wilders' trial and the use of media?
